My daughter (15), under the advice of her GI, attempted to use iberogast and was unable to stomach the taste. It smells horrid and tastes worse. After attempting to ingest this on two seperate ocations and almost vomiting due to the putrid taste, she gave up. The taste could not be coved up adding it to other food items. I would not recomend spending $20 on this product.

When your gastroenterologist tells you science doesn’t understand chronic dyspepsia and he doesn’t have any idea about remedies to help you (but pay my big bill anyway!), you have to do your own research, on MEDLINE and even Wikipedia. At least one study on MEDLINE suggests that this condition can be helped by the extremely versatile antidepressant, amitriptyline. As my first step, I had my GP prescribe it. I can’t prove it, but since I have gotten better, I ascribe this to amitriptyline. But I wanted more relief, and Wikipedia said that Iberogast was backed up by many clinical studies in Europe. I am rather skeptical about folk remedies, but tried this. What’s not to like? I have gotten better since taking it; it tastes fine in black or herb tea; there are no side effects; and they give you a generous portion for your money. I have re-ordered it.
UPDATE: almost a year later, I am still using this, although I need it less and less frequently all the time. I continue to admire the way it improves digestion reliably, gently, without side effects. We’re overdue for a better pharmacological understanding of this product, and I would like to see it become more widely available.
Iberogast is a great product. It has helped improve my mother digestion 100%. She is 91 years old. Five months ago, she developed bloating and stomach pain that unable her be comfortable. She blamed all types of food for her condition and stopped eating every thing she thought was making her stomach sick. Quickly she began loosing weight. Her weight dropped from 113 to 104 pounds in less than two weeks. A friend suggested we try Iberogast that had worked well for him. That was a great advise. At first we gave my mother 20 drops of Iberogast liquid after every meal. The results were immediately noticeable. The stomach pain and bloating went away same day. She has a good appetite now and she is putting back some weight. She has good health and is mentally active. Now my mother only takes 6 to 8 drops after every meal. I can assure Iberogast has worked well.
